Murphy died in Thailand on July 7 after drowning in a lake near Bangkok, according to local authorities. While investigators are still waiting for autopsy and toxicology results, Tate claimed that Murphy’s past use of Ayahuasca played a major role in his mental health struggles. His remarks quickly drew attention on social media, with some users agreeing with him while others criticized parts of his comments.

During a video discussing the situation, Tate claimed Murphy “lost his sanity” after the experience. He also criticized people who travel abroad in search of spiritual enlightenment through mind-altering substances. While making his argument, Tate appeared to confuse Peru and Mexico, referring to Peru as if it were part of Mexico. Tate continued by warning viewers against taking drugs in search of self-discovery. He argued that such experiences can have lasting negative effects and suggested that people can lose direction in life after becoming involved with them. However, he did not provide evidence linking Murphy’s death directly to Ayahuasca use.
