이곳에는 성벽 방어시설인 곡성이 있는 곳으로 추정된다. 곡성은 성벽에서 반달 모양으로 튀어나와 적군의 공격을 방어할 때 사용한다.
조사는 이르면 하반기 내 용역에 착수한 뒤 10개월가량 진행된다.
앞서 2019년부터 시작한 1∼3차 정밀 발굴 조사에서 발견된 목조 집수지, 목간(글을 적은 나뭇조각) 등은 신라 지방사를 엿볼 수 있어 학술 가치가 뛰어나다는 평가를 받았다.
북구 관계자는 "국가유산청 발굴 허가 등 관련 절차를 밟을 계획"이라며 "정밀 발굴 조사를 마치면 탐방로 정비와 성벽 복원 등도 장기적으로 검토 중"이라고 했다.
