Delhi Metro Blue and Green Lines: Escalator Maintenance to Cause Minor Inconvenience

Commuters on the Blue and Green Lines of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation may face minor inconvenience as escalators at select stations undergo maintenance. Passengers are advised to use lifts and plan their travel in advance.

The metro authority stated that major overhauling work is being carried out on escalators at multiple locations. These include Ashok Park Main (ground to concourse), Punjabi Bagh (concourse to Platform-2), Shivaji Park (concourse to Platform-2), Madipur (concourse to Platform-2), Karkardooma (lower concourse to upper concourse), Inderlok (ground to concourse), and Paschim Vihar East (concourse to Platform-2).

During this period, passengers have been advised to use lifts available at these stations.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has urged passengers to plan their travel accordingly and follow on-ground signage and staff instructions to avoid delays.

The Delhi Metro operates 343 trains (2368 coaches) and runs around 4,508 train trips daily, covering approximately 1,40,112 train kilometres every day, ensuring high-frequency and reliable services across the network. Delhi Metro also maintains an exceptional punctuality level of about 99.9%, making it one of the most reliable Metro systems in the world.

With such a robust Metro system which accounts for more than one third of the country’s total Metrorail network, Delhi Metro also continues to witness steady passenger growth, overcoming the Covid induced setbacks in the years 2020-2022. The overall passenger journeys recorded over the past two years reflect steady growth in metro usage. In 2024, the network handled about 2,283.5 million passenger journeys (around 223.5 crore), translating to an average daily ridership of nearly 62.39 lakh. This increased in 2025 to 2,358.03 million passenger journeys (around 235.8 crore), with average daily ridership rising to about 64.60 lakh, indicating consistent demand and higher commuter reliance on the system.
