FT: France 2 - 0 Morocco

H By Henry Hanson

France marches on.

The final whistle blows on a professional, comprehensive display from Les Bleus in Massachusetts.

Second-half goals to Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé send the French to their third-straight World Cup semifinal.

This team is seriously scary.

Against a very good Morocco side, France hardly broke a sweat in the Boston heat, dictating things through midfield and creating more than enough in the final third.

For Morocco, another wildly successful tournament comes to an end.

The Atlas Lions were well beaten today, but there are few teams in the history of world football who wouldn't have been.

90+3' France marching on

H By Henry Hanson

Morocco just haven't been able to conjure anything in the Boston heat.

It's still looking the more likely, and JP Mateta goes close to adding a third, but he scuffs his shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Morroco's Gessime Yassine has a crack from close to halfway, but his speculative shot is over the bar.

88' Barcola goes close

H By Henry Hanson

There is plenty of room for the French forward line to run into at the moment, and the newly-arrived Bradley Barcola might be literally licking his lips as he waltzes into the penalty area.

His eventual effort is tame, a bit of a double hit, and easily saved by Yassine Bounou.

Changes for both sides, with Malo Gusto coming on for France and Amine Sbai entering the game for Morocco.

Moroccans looking for a miracle

The Moroccan fans haven't given up yet, there are still some hopeful chants ringing around the stadium, desperate to at least have one goal to cheer for.

The French fans seem fairly relaxed though, they should have this in the bag.

83' Morocco with a couple chances from the dead ball

H By Henry Hanson

Morocco don't particularly look like scoring one goal, let alone two, but the Atlas Lions have a chance from the dead ball, wide on the left.

Achraf Hakimi's low cross is worked away, but he'll have another go almost immediately, with a teammate hauled down off the ball.

This time, the set piece is much straighter and a long way out.

Hakimi opts against the shot, instead rolling it square to Azzedine Ounahi, who stings the palms of Mike Maignon.

It's a first shot on target of the game for Morocco.

The stars are finally coming out to play

Dembélé joining the party now!

After a pretty uninspiring first half overall, it's no surprise Les Blues have turned up the heat and are doing their best to put this game to bed.

77' Mbappé off for the final stages

H By Henry Hanson

Kylian Mbappé's race is run.

The French superstar leaves the field having provided another golden moment in North America.

It's Jean-Philippe Mateta on in his place.

73' Nervy moment for France

H By Henry Hanson

Morocco have no choice but to throw everything forward as we enter the game's final stanza, and the Atlas Lions go as close as they've gone for some time via the boot of French central defender Dayot Upamecano.

A tempting cross is worked in from the right and Upamecano gets in a bit of tangle getting the ball away, slicing his clearance over the bar and out for a corner.

The set-piece is easily defended.

71' Change for France

H By Henry Hanson

The hydration break has come and gone in Boston and Didier Deschamps has turned to his bench.

It's 20-year-old PSG midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery, making his World Cup debut, on in place of Manu Koné.

66' It's 2-0 France!

H By Henry Hanson

And it's Ousmane Dembélé!

The Moroccan defence is backing off as the Ballon D'or winner runs into space on the edge of the penalty area.

He has plenty of time to pick a finish and opts for a curler into the bottom-right corner.

Yassine Bounou is diving, and might have even got a hand to the effort, but he can't prevent a second French goal.

That's Dembélé's fifth strike of the tournament.

We finally have a goal!

A By Amanda Shalala

You can hear the awe and appreciation from the crowd in watching the replays on that goal.

It was a magnificent strike, and he more than makes up for the missed penalty earlier.

It hadn't been his best game to this point, but he always seems to step up and deliver when his country needs him.

The vastly outnumbered French fans are in seventh heaven.

63' Changes for Morocco

H By Henry Hanson

It's number nine Soufiane Rahimi on to lead the line, with Sofyan Amrabat also coming on in holding midfield.

Bilal El Khannouss and Ayyoub Bouaddi leave the game.

Meanwhile, Morocco's Issa Diop is shown a deserved booking for clattering Kylian Mbappé from behind.

60' Mbappé breaks the deadlock!

H By Henry Hanson

Of course he does.

Kylian Mbappé scores a beautiful goal to take his all-time World Cup tally to 20.

The French superstar receives the ball on the edge of the penalty area and manoeuvres some space for a shot, bending the ball around his marker beautifully and finding the back of the net.

Nothing Yassine Bounou could have done about that one.

Mbappé, belatedly, has his moment in Boston.

55' Big let-off for Morocco

H By Henry Hanson

Kylian Mbappé, who looks to have swapped boots for the second half, has a massive chance.

Michael Olise picks up the ball from deep and drives beautifully towards the penalty area.

He slips a pass into the box and Mbappé really should score — but his side-footed effort is well over the bar.

The replays show he was offside anyway.

53' Set piece chance for Morocco

H By Henry Hanson

Morocco win a corner and it's played short by Achraf Hakimi.

The change of angle doesn't quite pay off, and the eventual ball into the area is defended by the first man.

The Atlas Lions having the best of the early stages of the second half.

48' Good signs for Morocco

H By Henry Hanson

Beautiful stuff from Morocco.

The Atlas Lions play a string of slick passes to move through midfield and it's the best they've looked all game.

Brahim Diaz ends with a little bit of space on the edge of the penalty area but can't get his shot away.

We're back underway in Boston

H By Henry Hanson

After one of the longer half-time breaks of the tournament, with Morocco well and truly taking their time in returning to the field, we're back underway.

It's France, wearing that gorgeous white change strip, kicking us off.

No changes for either side.

أسئلة مفتوحة

  • Will France win the World Cup again?
  • How will Morocco rebuild after this tournament?
