Private lender IndusInd Bank on Wednesday reported 72% year-on-year (YoY) growth in its consolidated net profit at Rs 1,037 crore in the first quarter. The same stood at Rs 604 crore in the last year quarter. Net Interest Income (NII) in Q1 was flat at Rs 4,685 crore as compared to Rs 4,640 crore in the same quarter of last year.

Pre-provision operating profit stood at Rs 2,773 crore, against Rs 2,567 crore in the previous year quarter. Net interest margin improved to 3.57% from 3.46% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Fee and other income fell to Rs 1,787 crore from Rs 2,157 crore a year earlier. As a result, net revenue declined to Rs 6,471 crore from Rs 6,797 crore in Q1FY26.

Operating expenses were lower at Rs 3,698 crore, compared with Rs 4,229 crore in the year-ago quarter. This helped the bank report growth in operating profit despite the drop in fee and other income.

Provisions and contingencies, excluding tax, fell to Rs 1,384 crore from Rs 1,760 crore a year earlier. This supported the rise in bottom-line profit.

The bank said yield on assets stood at 8.62% for the quarter, compared with 9.15% in the same quarter last year. Cost of funds declined to 5.05% from 5.69% a year earlier.

Deposits rise, advances decline

IndusInd Bank's balance sheet size stood at Rs 5.54 lakh crore as of June 2026, compared with Rs 5.39 lakh crore a year earlier.

Deposits rose to Rs 4.14 lakh crore from Rs 3.97 lakh crore in the same period last year. CASA deposits stood at Rs 1.22 lakh crore, with current account deposits at Rs 34,620 crore and savings account deposits at Rs 87,440 crore.

The CASA ratio stood at 29.43% of total deposits. Retail deposits, as per liquidity coverage ratio classification, stood at Rs 1.90 lakh crore, compared with Rs 1.82 lakh crore as of March 2026.

Advances, however, declined to Rs 3.26 lakh crore from Rs 3.33 lakh crore a year earlier. The fall in advances comes at a time when the bank is focusing on portfolio quality and disciplined growth.

Asset quality improves

Gross non-performing assets stood at 3.25% of gross advances as of June 30, 2026, compared with 3.64% a year earlier and 3.43% as of March 2026. Net NPA ratio improved to 0.95%, compared with 1.12% a year earlier and 1% at the end of the March quarter.

The provision coverage ratio stood at 71.42%, compared with 70% in Q1FY26. Capital adequacy also improved. The bank’s total capital adequacy ratio under Basel III stood at 17.15% as of June 30, 2026, compared with 16.63% a year earlier. Tier 1 capital ratio was 16.10%, against 15.48% in the year-ago period.

IndusInd Bank had 3,137 branches and banking outlets as of June 2026, compared with 3,110 a year earlier. The number of onsite and offsite ATMs stood at 2,853, down from 3,052 in the same period last year.
