一方で、25年度の来館者数が国内3位の名古屋港水族館（名古屋市港区）は大規模な改修計画を今春、凍結した。
200億円超の改修費用が試算されたが、これまでの「ずさんな運営」が指摘されるなどの問題が露呈。公益財団法人が運営してきたが、民営化も視野に計画の練り直しを迫られている。
水族館を研究する福山大の泉貴人講師は、「老朽化に伴い水槽のガラスが割れる危険性が増すので早い補修が必要となる。ただ、補修費用に加え、生き物へのストレスをどう軽減するかなどの調整が難しい」と指摘する。【菊池真由】
