Jeju sees first father-daughter provincial council members elected

Jeju has seen the birth of its first father-daughter provincial council members in the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections.

Oh Eun-cho (40), who ran in the Seogwipo City Jeongbang-dong, Jungang-dong, Cheonji-dong, and Seohong-dong constituency, secured her seat on the Jeju Provincial Council by obtaining 3,891 votes (40.81%) in the vote count on the 4th, defeating Kang Ha-young of the People Power Party and independent Kang Sang-soo.

Oh is the second daughter of Oh Choong-jin, a former member of the Seogwipo City Council, Jeju Provincial Council, and former chairman of the Jeju Provincial Council.

This marks the first time in Jeju that a father and daughter have both been elected as provincial council members.

This also sets a record in Jeju for both a father and daughter to have served as members of the Jeju Provincial Council.

In this constituency, although Democratic Party preliminary candidates competed, Oh was nominated and ran as the Democratic Party candidate as it was designated as a mandatory female nomination area.

During the election campaign, Oh targeted voters by pledging to revitalize the old downtown area, build the Seohong-dong administrative complex center, and improve the school commute environment.

Meanwhile, Kim Ki-hwan (35), who was re-elected in the Ido 2-dong, Gap constituency in Jeju City, is the son of former council member Kim Soo-nam (formerly of the Grand National Party), and they are recorded as Jeju's first father-son council members.
