Jo Clay Elected ACT Greens Leader, Ruling Out Coalition with Liberals

Jo Clay has been formally elected as the leader of the ACT Greens, succeeding Shane Rattenbury who resigned in April. Clay, who previously served as deputy leader, won the party's internal vote with 61% of the membership's support, defeating Rebecca Vassarotti.

Clay emphasized the party's commitment to grassroots democracy, highlighting the transparent voting process. She outlined her priorities, including making housing affordable, ensuring no one sleeps rough, protecting the climate, and addressing the rising cost of living. Clay criticized the current ACT government for not adequately addressing community concerns, such as unaffordability and climate worries.

Notably, Clay ruled out any potential coalition with the Canberra Liberals, a possibility previously explored by her predecessor but rejected by party members. Instead, she focused on delivering "firm solutions" to the community's problems.

Andrew Braddock was elected as the new deputy leader, praising the positive and supportive nature of the party's voting process. He expressed confidence in the party's future under Clay's leadership.

The election marks a new era for the ACT Greens after Rattenbury's 14-year leadership. Clay's immediate focus will be on translating her campaign promises into actionable policies for the Canberra community.
