Man Charged with Murder in Hollywood Walk of Fame Dog Attack

A dog owner with a history of violence was charged with murder for his part in a group attack that turned deadly on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last month.

Patrick Randall Perry, 55, is the fourth person charged in the broad daylight killing of 37-year-old Berry Le’Mar Henderson on May 20, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Henderson was attacked by Perry’s dog while waiting for a bus near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Las Palmas Avenue, and stabbed the dog in self-defense.

Perry and three other men chased Henderson across the street and attacked him with a “metal bat” and other weapons.

When Henderson dropped the knife he used to ward off the dog, Perry stabbed him with it, Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Daniel Ilacqua said Monday.

The attack took place within several blocks of the stars of several notable stars on the Walk of Fame, including Sylvester Stallone, Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, Mel Brooks and Charlie Chaplin, amongst others.

Surveillance footage taken from a nearby 7-Eleven showed the group punching and kicking Henderson. An LAPD spokesperson said he suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at a hospital soon after the attack, the Los Angeles Times previously reported.

“Barry was an innocent man. A man who brought no harm to anyone,” his sister, O’koia Nixon, said during a vigil last week.

The three other suspects, Bruce Lamont Fuller Jr., 30, Isaul Hernandez, 36, and Robert Anthony Garcia, 33, were arrested the day of the attack and charged in connection to Henderson’s death. Perry was arrested on May 28, according to the report.

Perry had several prior convictions and was arrested in 2024 after getting into a fight outside a Church of Scientology building that was also along on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

That same year, he also punched one man and hit another with his cane before ordering his dog to attack both men. Perry avoided prison time after being granted a form of mental health diversion, according to the report.

The diversion request was granted after Perry argued that he suffers from mental health issues stemming from his time in the Army. Perry served from 1989 to 1993 and received an honorable discharge. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after his discharge.

Perry and the three other men are each being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to the report.
