Michael Crosby Appointed Administrator of CFMEU

NSW union official Michael Crosby has been appointed as administrator of the CFMEU, following the resignation of its previous administrator last month.

The embattled union was placed into administration in 2024 by the Albanese government following revelations the union had been infiltrated by organised crime.

Mark Irving served for 20 months in the role, during which he commissioned multiple investigations and removed hundreds of individuals from their positions.

He was subjected to death threats while in the role.

The Melbourne barrister also survived several health scares, after being hospitalised last year and undergoing surgery for heart issues.

Mr Crosby has previously served as the union's NSW executive officer.

He thanked Mr Irving for his contributions to reforming the union, and said the administration was moving to "a new and important phase".

"New personnel are now moving into place to implement the systems and processes required to ensure the union can operate lawfully, ethically, and eventually democratically," he said.

"This implementation stage requires a different set of skills within the administration and within the union."

Mr Crosby said he remained committed to changing the culture of the union

"The union is changing its personnel. It is changing its culture. It is working to regain its position in civil society.

"I look forward to continuing Mark's hard work and delivering the necessary and vital change that is required to return the CFMEU to the strong and principled union it once was."

Mr Irving will continue to serve as senior counsel as part of the administration, which is mandated to last for at least three years.
