Shreyas Iyer Equals Virat Kohli's Toss Streak Ahead of India vs England T20I

Shreyas Iyer continued an unusual streak of success ahead of India's fourth T20I against England on Thursday, winning his sixth consecutive toss as captain to equal Virat Kohli for the second-longest run by an Indian skipper in T20Is. Iyer's remarkable run now leaves him just one toss win away from matching MS Dhoni's record of seven straight tosses, achieved between May 2010 and February 2012. Kohli also enjoyed a six-match streak between August and December 2019, while Rohit Sharma's best sequence stands at five consecutive toss wins.

While Iyer's luck at the toss has continued, India have endured a difficult run on the field after taking an early lead in the series. Following a rain-affected opening match, the visitors have lost the next two T20Is, including a crushing 125-run defeat at Trent Bridge that allowed England to seize the momentum. India's problems have been compounded by injuries to two key bowlers. Fast bowler Harshit Rana and mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy have both been ruled out of the remaining two matches after suffering hamstring injuries during the third T20I. "Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy sustained hamstring injuries in the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. The BCCI Medical Team has assessed them and ruled them out of the fourth and fifth T20Is," the BCCI said in a statement. For the fourth T20I, India brought in all-rounder Washington Sundar and pacer Prasidh Krishna as replacements for the injured duo. With England holding the upper hand after back-to-back victories, India will be hoping Iyer's fortune at the toss can finally translate into success on the field as they look to level the series and avoid another setback before the decider.
