Singapore has unveiled the next phase of its Greater Sentosa Master Plan, a long-term redevelopment project that will integrate Sentosa with the neighbouring Brani Island over the next two decades.

The expansion is expected to create new spaces for hotels, attractions and lifestyle experiences, with authorities projecting that Greater Sentosa will attract twice as many visitors as the island does today.

The Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) announced the plan on Thursday, saying developments will be rolled out in phases from the early 2030s. The project covers Sentosa and the 120-hectare Brani Island and is designed to strengthen Singapore's position as a global leisure and tourism destination while preserving the island's natural environment.

Brani to become part of Greater Sentosa

The master plan includes several new landmarks such as the Imbiah Canopy, a new attraction at Mount Imbiah with retail, dining and event spaces, the Imbiah Lookout Walk, an elevated forest canopy trail, and the Sensorium, a beachfront destination planned for lifestyle attractions, indoor experiences and events. Brani West is also being planned as one of the largest sites for future attractions.

Sentosa's beaches at Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong will be redeveloped with new day-to-night leisure spaces, beach club concepts, treetop dining and an islet-hopping experience linked by floating boardwalks. The redevelopment will also incorporate coastal protection measures.

To improve accessibility, the plan proposes an Island Heart Transport Hub, a new People Mover System to replace the existing Sentosa Express, expanded cable car connectivity, and future water taxi services and waterfront links.

Sustainability at the core

The project will also focus on sustainability by integrating climate resilience, ecological connectivity and green infrastructure into future developments. Environmental studies and consultations with nature groups will guide the planning process.

Launching the project, SDC Chief Executive Officer Thien Kwee Eng said, "The GSMP is the greatest transformation in our history. We will stay true to the soul and identity of this island, while shaping the next generation of world-class experiences. Before any of it is built, we wanted to share this vision openly, invite Singaporeans to step inside it and shape it together."

As part of the public engagement process, SDC has launched the 'Your Island. Reimagined.' exhibition at VivoCity from July 3 to July 5. The exhibition will later travel to other locations across Singapore before returning to Sentosa in October.
