D
By David Hirst
Ten-man USA booked its place in the last 16 of the World Cup with a 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in Santa Clara.
Folarin Balogun put USA in front on 45 minutes after a tight first half, shooting between the keeper’s legs.
But Balogun was sent off in the second half for a challenge on Tarik Muharemovic with the referee handing out a red card after checking the VAR monitor.
Bosnia and Herzegovina struggled to create many decent chances, while the USA had two goals correctly ruled out for offside.
Malik Tillmann scored the second goal on 82 minutes, curling in a free-kick from the edge of the area.
The USA joins the other co-hosts, Mexico and Canada, in the Round of 16, where they will face Belgium.

82' GOAL FOR USA!!

By David Hirst
It's 2-0!
The home crowd erupts.
Malik Tillmann hits a free-kick over the wall and the keeper can't get to it.
The keeper should really be stopping that.
A deafening noise in Santa Clara.
It looks like 10-man USA are going through to the last 16.
79' USA has another goal ruled out!
D
By David Hirst
That was almost game over for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The ball goes in, but the flag goes up.
It's the second time the USA has had a goal ruled out for offside.
Christian Pulisic latched onto a knockdown and stroked past Nikola Vasilj and into the net.
He was offside though.
75' More changes for Bosnia and Herzegovina

By David Hirst
It's all Bosnia and Herzegovina at the moment.
Sead Kolasinac and Nikola Katic have come off for, with Haris Tabakovic and Amar Memic on.
What now for the USA?
D
By David Hirst
As we head to our second hydration break, how does the USA react to that red card?
They've still got a quarter of the game to see out with 10 men.
Surely Bosnia and Herzegovina will go for an all-out attack now.
62' RED CARD FOR USA GOALSCORER!

By David Hirst
Folarin Balogun went in for a challenge on Tarik Muharemovic.
Balogun's studs went down Muharemovic's Achilles.
The ref goes to the VAR monitor to check.
RED CARD IS GIVEN!!
Not sure about that one.
Not sure where Balogun is supposed to put his foot.
Looks a lot worse in slow motion.
That means Balogun will be suspended if the USA makes it to the next round.
60' Little action so far this half
D
By David Hirst
There's been a real lack of action so far this half.
Bosnia and Herzegovina look more concerned about conceding another goal than finding an equaliser.
The USA are unable to create anything so far in the second half.
50' Game over for Edin Dzeko
D
By David Hirst
Looks like the 40-year-old has picked up an injury early in this second half.
Dzeko limps off, replaced by Ermin Mahmic.
Armin Gigovic and Ivan Sunjic are also going off.
On come Esmir Bajraktarevic and Benjamin Tahirovic.
Will the changes make Bosnia and Herzegovina more positive.
They really have to be or they are going home.

Analysis: Kane the hero England desperately needed
D
By David Hirst
England needed a hero.
Trailing DR Congo by a goal and facing World Cup elimination, England needed a moment.
As England fans in Atlanta, back home in England and in bars across the world celebrated a come-from-behind victory with equal parts delight and relief, they were largely raising their glasses to one man in the midst of the most extraordinary goal-scoring season of his life.

Breakthrough for USA!!!
Folarin Balogun makes it 1-0.
The ball breaks off a sliding defender and then off another blue shirt and falls to Balogun, who fires home a low shot.
The USA had been frustrated up until then.
Bosnia and Herzegovina will surely have to come out and attack now.
Five minutes of stoppage time.
40' Pulisic creates chance down the left
D
By David Hirst
Christian Pulisic has not really been in the game but he almost made a difference there.
Malik Tillman's back-heel sends Pulisic into the box but his cross is too high.
31' USA goal ruled out for offside!
D
By David Hirst
Folarin Balogun thinks he's put the US in front.
A fantastic finish into the bottom corner after a smart turn.
He turns away to celebrate but sees the flag raised.
Looks like he just went too early and got caught offside.
Couple of dramatic moments for the US.
أسئلة مفتوحة
- Will the USA advance further in the tournament?
- What will be the impact of Balogun's suspension?
