Trump, US Officials Slam Spain Over Ceuta Migrant Crisis, Warning of 'Invasion'

U.S. President Donald Trump and his top officials are slamming Spain over the migrant crisis unfolding in Ceuta, after about 50,000 migrants crossed into the northern African exclave from Morocco since Wednesday.

“I saw Spain yesterday, and I watched the catastrophe that took place. It looks like an invasion of a country,” said Trump at a cabinet meeting on Friday. “Hundreds of thousands of people. And that same thing’s going to happen to us if the Republicans don’t get elected, except worse, much bigger, much easier to get into.”

The U.S. Department of State was more categorical in laying the blame squarely on the Socialist administration of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

“This unacceptable incident is the direct result of the Spanish Government’s deliberate efforts to enable and facilitate mass illegal migration into Europe. We are considering actions to defend Americans at home and abroad from this threat and stand ready to assist other European allies considering similar options,” wrote the department.

Sánchez will hardly be surprised by the scathing American reaction, having emerged as the fiercest Trump critic among EU leaders, slamming U.S. military action in the Middle East and barring U.S. military planes from using Spanish air bases.

“Thank God POTUS was elected and our country’s border no longer looks like this. These images out of Spain are an unfortunate reminder of the consequences of mass migration and the radical left-wing globalist policies that have enabled the Invasion of the West,” wrote U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security made the same argument, saying: “If Spain had their own President Trump, this wouldn’t be an issue.”

The U.S. criticism came as the situation in Ceuta escalated into a Europe-wide political flashpoint in little more than a day. Neighboring governments moved to tighten their response on Friday, with France restoring border checks and Italy calling for Spain to be suspended from the Schengen area, exposing divisions over the bloc’s migration policy.

Former Trump adviser and world’s first trillionaire Elon Musk initially shared a video comparing footage from the Ceuta migrant crisis with scenes from the 2013 zombie film “World War Z.” “Wow, the situation in Spain looks crazy!” he posted.

Clarifying the comparison was a joke, he then shared footage from 2023, showing hundreds of Venezuelan migrants attempting to cross into the U.S., captioning it: “This is what America looked like under Biden.”
