Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene have both said they are working on plans for new political parties, following their high profile splits with the Republican Party.

Both Carlson and Green have turned from former Trump allies to frequent critics, claiming the president is not delivering on his ‘America First’ promises. However, despite abandoning the GOP they have made clear they have no intention of becoming Democrats.

Carlson lifted the lid on his desire to “help build a third party” to the Columbia Journalism Review, published July 1.

“There should be a good-faith effort to figure out what benefits the country,” he said. “I mean, if you make sixty thousand dollars a year, you’re degraded.

“Your life expectancy has gone down, and the promise of your children’s lives is likely gone. No one seems to care. It’s not even a factor.”

A central plank of Carlson’s argument is that the U.S. is too involved in foreign affairs at the cost of its own citizens’ welfare.

The right wing pundit, who has previously called for the U.S. to “detach” from Israel in particular, has accused the Republican Party of being “not loyal to the United States”.

“‘What about Hamas?’ I officially don’t care about Hamas,” he told the Review, referring to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “The U.S. government should have, as its first priority, the welfare of its own people.”

However, Carlson stressed he did not want to be a candidate in any new political party himself.

Separately, Greene told Piers Morgan Uncensored she was in talks with unnamed individuals to launch a “true America-Focused” political party.

Morgan asked Greene whether Carlson could lead a splinter version of the Republican Party. The former congresswoman said she had not spoken to Carlson about that but believes he would be a “great threat” to both mainstream parties if he ran for office.

“I am in talks with people and there are serious conversations happening, looking at what are the mechanics of that and the reality of it,” Greene said.

“There is a group of us that have literally fought the system... There’s a group of us that if we decide to align, we could launch a true America-focused party that doesn’t fall into the traps of Democrats and Republicans, but could align some serious players from the right and the left and move forward.”

Greene added that if Americans really wanted an alternative, they would have to “step up”.

Last month, the former lawmaker said she was done with the GOP, branding it the “America LAST Republican Party”.
