Arab nations are seeking compensation from Iran for damages caused by strikes, a topic raised during a meeting of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
DOHA, June 25. /TASS/. Arab nations are raising the issue of compensation for Iran's strikes, and Washington is going to discuss it with Tehran during further negotiations, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters in the Bahraini capital of Manama.
According to the chief of American diplomacy, this topic was raised during a meeting in Manama of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
"They want some sort of funding for reconstruction. They suffered damages; they want to be compensated for those damages. So I would imagine that, as part of the MOU process and as part of their [the Iranians - TASS] engagement with us in that process, that items such as that are going to come up," Rubio said.
Rubio could not say whether such compensation could potentially be paid from Iran's frozen assets.
"I don’t know. I’m not going to speculate right now as to how that will actually be worked out. I just pointed it out to you that it’s one of the things they raised in our meeting today. It’s one of the things they’re interested in and one of the things that I think we’re going to have to address at some point, but we haven’t really worked through any of the particulars of that yet," the Secretary of State said.
