West Bengal Police Partners with Rashtriya Raksha University for Modern Training

West Bengal police is modernizing its forces through a new agreement with Rashtriya Raksha University.

This collaboration will provide advanced training in areas like cyber-crime and forensic science. The initiative aims to enhance the state police's capabilities, reducing reliance on central forces for law and order. The government is also focusing on transparent recruitment and implementing the 112 system.

Olkata: In a bid to modernize the policing system in West Bengal to equip them with modern day crime issues, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by West Bengal police on Wednesday with the Union Home Ministry-controlled Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU).

Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Assam have already signed similar agreements with RRU.

The state Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, speaking on the occasion, said that the Bengal government will lay focus on several measures to modernize the police force, so that the state will not have to rely on the central armed police forces (CAPF) personnel to address critical law & order issues.

Under the MoU, training will be conducted for all levels of police officers-IPS, WBPS, Sub-Inspectors and Constables in the state and a wide range of modern day issues will be covered in the courses..

“Training will be conducted for various aspects of modern-day crimes like cyber-crime, dark web, Artificial Intelligence enabled surveillance, border security, prevention of human trafficking, crime-detection activities like forensic science, among others,” said the Chief Minister.

The MoU was signed on Wednesday at state secretariat of Nabanna in presence of West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agarwal, DGP Siddh Nath Gupta, Kolkata Police chief Ajay Nand, among others.

“Already 16,000 constables have been trained, who will be utilized. The recruitment process of the force will be made transparent and 112 system, which is prevailing, will be implemented,” CM said.

Adhikari said the previous government did not sign the MoU despite the request by the central government.

“The state police was at its peak once and parallels were drawn with international forces. However, during previous government’s regime, did not utilize that efficiency for the benefits of the people,” he noted.

“Modern equipment necessary to increase efficiency in police functioning were not provided. That is why arrangements are being made to recruit more. Arrangements will be made to bring transparency in recruitment,” said CM Adhikari speaking on the occasion.

Adhikari had been giving messages regarding impartial functioning of the state police forces to establish the “rule of law” and not the “rule of the ruler.”

Meanwhile, Adhikari launched a six-day citywide cleanliness campaign titled “Welcome to Cleanliness”, ahead of the International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21. The PM will lead a mega celebration on Kolkata’s Red Road, where a mega carnival will be undertaken by the Bengal government. WB CM will participate in cleaning of banks of Ganga on June 17.
