Wyze Launches Cheaper BodyScan Smart Scale for $79.98

Seven months after introducing its $119.98 Ultra BodyScan smart scale, Wyze announced a cheaper $79.98 alternative available today that makes a few compromises to shave $40 off the price.

There’s no Wi-Fi, but you can sync the BodyScan’s measurements to Apple Health and Google Fit by connecting to the Wyze mobile app over Bluetooth. And instead of a customizable LCD screen, the new scale uses a simpler 4.7-inch LED display to show your health stats.

But the new Wyze Scale BodyScan still features a retractable tethered handle with four additional electrodes so it can provide a more detailed breakdown of health metrics for your legs, arms, and torso.

The Wyze Scale BodyScan features eight electrodes in total. The other four are located in the base, which is covered by a conductive glass surface so you don’t have to place your feet in exact spots for the scale to make accurate measurements.

When used alongside the handle the BodyScan can determine how muscle and fat are distributed across your body while capturing other metrics, including body weight and BMI, protein and water levels, bone mass, visceral and subcutaneous fat, and muscle mass.

Wyze claims its new scale can automatically recognize and track metrics for up to eight different people, and it can take one-off measurements for an unlimited number of guests.

While Wyze’s mobile app isn’t required to use the scale or to track metrics and trends over time, it does allow you to export a PDF report of your body composition to share with a doctor or personal trainer.
