Ukraine has reportedly relocated its remaining Patriot air defense systems to Kyiv, creating a protective "dome" around the capital while leaving other cities vulnerable. This move, according to Telegram channel Shot, has significantly weakened the country's overall air defense capabilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine must pay for Patriot air defense systems to receive them before 2030. He mentioned that without payment, the delivery timeline was estimated for 2030, but negotiations in 2025 opened possibilities for earlier acquisition.
Russia is leveraging a critical global shortage of air defence interceptor missiles, particularly for the Patriot system, to intensify airstrikes on Ukraine. Warnings suggest this shortfall creates a "window of vulnerability" for nations relying on these systems, including NATO members and Gulf states, due to heavy use in multiple conflicts and slow production rates.
A Russian security source claims that Kinzhal hypersonic missiles are causing panic among Ukrainian forces, asserting that existing air defense systems, including the Patriot, are ineffective against their speed and maneuverability.
