Minnesota became the first U.S. state to ban nudification apps after the Senate voted 65-0 to pass legislation targeting developers of AI tools that create fake nude images. The law, introduced by Democratic Senator Erin Maye Quade after a Minnesota man used an app to undress over 80 women, allows victims to sue for damages including punitive damages and enables the attorney general to impose fines up to $500,000 per fake AI nude. Gov. Tim Walz is expected to sign the law, with enforcement starting in August 2026.
WhatsApp has deployed AI-driven systems to detect and remove accounts impersonating law enforcement agencies, banning 9,400 accounts over 12 weeks beginning January 2026. The platform is working with Indian authorities to tackle digital arrest scams, which have caused losses exceeding Rs 22,845 crore in 2024.
