Japan's Bus Drivers Age Dramatically, Raising Safety Concerns
The average age of bus drivers in Japan has risen by nearly 10 years in the 15 years leading up to 2025, reaching 56 years old. One in four drivers is now over 60, a significant increase from 10.8% in 2003. This aging trend, linked to chronic labor shortages, is a potential factor in the recent rise of fatal and injury-related bus accidents.
