Chronic Wasting Disease: Risk to Humans?
A German-Canadian study published in Science Advances suggests that the risk of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) transmitting to humans should not be underestimated, despite current epidemiological studies showing no increase in human prion diseases in CWD-endemic regions. Researchers infected macaques with CWD-affected deer brain extracts, finding pathogenic prions at very low concentrations after several years.
