Rep. Rashida Tlaib introduced the Ban Warehouse Detention Act to prohibit DHS from converting warehouses into immigrant detention centers. The bill responds to ICE's February 2026 memo outlining a $38.3 billion plan to expand into non-traditional facilities. DHS has already spent over $1 billion on warehouses across eight states, with 104 new facilities opened in 2025 and detention capacity increasing by 75%.
Legal opinion is a win for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
