Hong Kong International Airport's Expanded Terminal 2 Relaunches with Smooth Operations

More than 4,000 passengers are expected to use the expanded second terminal at Hong Kong International Airport on its first day of relaunch, with authorities reporting smooth operations. Some passengers praised Terminal 2 for its efficiency upon reopening on Wednesday, but said more convenient boarding arrangements were still needed. Hong Kong Airlines became the first – and so far only – carrier to use the upgraded terminal, which will accommodate 15 carriers moving in between Wednesday and June 10. Six other airlines will commence service at the new facility on Thursday. Vivian Cheung Kar-fay, chief executive of the Airport Authority, said it estimated that 4,200 passengers would use the revamped facility on Wednesday. “[Operations] this morning have been very smooth and our passengers are very happy,” she said. She added that the automated check-in system designed by the authority could complete the entire process in just 45 seconds.
