Hong Kong Jockey Club and Deauville Sign Cooperation Agreement

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) and the city of Deauville in France officially joined forces on Wednesday, agreeing to cooperate on a range of areas, including horse riding and polo. Officials from the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the French consulate in Hong Kong, with the understanding also covering equine medicine, the supply of racehorses and horse riding. The three-year agreement further cemented a relationship that already involves racing events in Hong Kong and at the Deauville-La Touques Racecourse, which hosts HKJC trophy races every August. “Deauville and Hong Kong may be oceans apart, but we are joined by the same spirit – a love for horses, sport, elegance and tradition, as well as a constant drive for innovation and excellence,” Philippe Behuet, Deauville’s deputy mayor, said. “The values upheld by the Hong Kong Jockey Club deeply resonate with those of our town, which has long been in both places the home to world-class horse events. Together, we can foster new opportunities, inspire young talent, and strengthen the enduring bond between our communities.” Signed by Behuet and Andrew Harding, HKJC’s executive director, racing, the agreement was witnessed by various officials, including Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the club’s CEO, and Christile Drulhe, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau.

The collaboration is expected to enhance the horse racing sector in both locations through shared expertise and resources.
