活動由國教署人權教育資源中心規劃，搭配5月底即將出版的《民主的滋味》增訂版教材，希望用學生最熟悉的「吃」，拉近與歷史的距離。

19日至21日連續3天，學校推出不同主題菜單，19日是〈原住民族的餐桌〉，有小米飯香腸、竹筍炒肉絲和地瓜籤煎餅；20日最吸睛，以〈台灣民主路上的滋味〉為主題，菜色直接出現選舉造勢超常見的炒米粉、雞排，搭配西魯肉與魚鬆，讓學生秒聯想到台灣街頭選舉文化；21日將重現台灣議會請願運動時期的「獄中食」，推出糙米飯、滷肉、天婦羅與滷黃豆。
國教署人權教育資源中心執行秘書、台南女中老師楊素芳表示，希望透過食物，把民主、人權與歷史變得更生活化，學生不只吃得飽，也能吃出背後的時代故事。
校長洪慶在說，如果民主有味道，會是什麼滋味？其實過去民主運動、大型造勢場合，炒米粉與雞排攤總少不了，這些看似平凡的小吃，都是台灣民主一路走來的共同記憶。
創意寫作班老師劉姿吟帶學生從美食談民主，有學生笑說，以前覺得民主歷史離自己很遠，現在看到炒米粉、雞排，竟然也能想到民主運動，感覺歷史突然變得很有畫面。
活動期間還有線上有獎徵答，總統府與學校熱食部也贊助獎品，讓這堂「用味蕾上的民主課」更有趣。
