Teenager Suffers Severe Burns After School Science Experiment Fire

A teenager has been left with severe burns on over 40 percent of her body after a school science experiment went tragically wrong and resulted in a fire.

The 15-year-old was airlifted to hospital following the incident at around 1.30 p.m. last Wednesday at Greeneview Middle School, in Jamestown, Ohio, where she remains for treatment.

“She faces a long road to recovery both physically and emotionally,” a GoFundMe page shared by the school read.

“Out of respect for the family and her privacy, specific details will not be shared at this time, but rest assured she is doing the best she can, given the situation.”

The GoFundMe page has raised over $66,000 so far, with funds going towards any costs of the “terrible accident.”

Meanwhile, residents of Jamestown came together to provide support to the family in various ways. Nicole Marshall, owner of Small Town Roots Salon and Spa, said that people could donate cash or hair to her own fundraiser.

“If she is going to need a wig, then we can find out where they’re going to get their wig from and we can take all of the hair donations there, and they will help put that into a wig,” Marshall told KPTV.

“I just felt like God had put it on me that I needed to do something,” Marshall added.

The Independent has contacted Greeneview High School for comment. In a previous statement, the school said that all students and staff were evacuated immediately after the incident.

“One student was treated on-site, and another was transported to the hospital for burn injuries. Thank you to Silvercreek Fire and EMS for their prompt response,” wrote the school.

The school reopened last Thursday with extra help and support made available to students.
