Ladakh Groups Seek Meeting with Amit Shah During Visit to Press Sixth Schedule, Statehood Demands

Ladakh's two main political groupings—Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance—have sought a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his two-day visit to Leh on April 30 and May 1. The groups want to press their demands for Sixth Schedule status and statehood for Ladakh. LAB co-chairman Tsering Dorje Lakrook said Ladakhi politicians and activists have unanimously decided to seek time with Shah, adding that his visit offers a chance to convene a meeting of the high-powered committee. The groups submitted a draft proposal to the home ministry outlining their demands and are awaiting the government's response.
