SEOUL, May 19 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Group has outlined plans to deploy 25,000 Atlas humanoid robots developed by its subsidiary Boston Dynamics and manufacture core robot components at factories in the United States, according to investor relations materials released Tuesday.

The plan was presented during an investor relations session hosted by global investment bank JPMorgan Chase, where Hyundai Motor Group said it aims to achieve annual production capacity of 30,000 Atlas robots by 2028.

The group said it plans to deploy more than 25,000 Atlas robots across Hyundai Motor and Kia manufacturing facilities, though it did not provide a detailed rollout schedule or identify specific plants.

Hyundai Motor Group said it also aims to produce more than 300,000 actuator units annually at U.S. facilities. Actuators are key robot components that function as joints and muscles.

The rollout is part of a phased strategy to integrate humanoid robots into core manufacturing processes for the automotive group.

During recent overseas road shows, Song Ho-sung, chief executive officer of Kia Corp., outlined plans to deploy the humanoid robots at Kia's Georgia plant in 2029, following an initial rollout at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Georgia in 2028.

South Korea's 24-Hour FX Trading: A Step Towards Modernization, Not a Panacea

South Korea introduces 24-hour weekday FX trading to modernize its financial system and align with international standards. While this reform aims to reduce offshore NDF dominance and improve risk management, it does not inherently stabilize the won, which faces pressure from foreign outflows and US interest rates. Concerns remain about increased volatility during low-liquidity hours and the impact on SMEs.
