- Alex

Hi fellas great that I have you boys giving me the Sate of Origin coverage on the radio. I am over here in Guam and just had the Category 5 Cyclone 🌀 and don’t want QLD to cop.another Category 5 Typhoooooon Great listening to you guys anyway Cheers

- Peter Skello Murphy

Mike: Remember mate, the team that scored the first try in Game I and Game II went on to lose.

Alex: They do have golden point in State of Origin. It was introduced for the 2003 series.

Peter: Stay safe my friend.

James Tedesco was taken off for a HIA

M

By Michael Doyle

An important point at the end of the first half.

NSW fullback James Tedesco was taken off for a Head Injury Assessment after being flattened trying to tackle Queensland's Briton Nikora.

Did Briton Nikora deserve to be penalised for raising his arm with the ball?

M

By Michael Doyle

The late penalty against Queensland's Briton Nikora took away a final attacking chance for the Maroons.

Nikora was penalised for raising his arm while running into a defender

It is hard to argue that it should be a penalty, but it is hard to imagine that is the only time it has happened in this half.

Maybe this photograph proves my point.

Should this have been a penalty to Queensland?

HT: NSW 18 lead QLD 4

M

By Michael Doyle

That brings to an end a gripping half of footy.

Queensland started hot, but NSW turned the tide.

The Blues, with momentum, scored three tries to race out to an 18-0 lead.

The Maroons were able to jag a try back before half time.

40' NSW penalty for running with an arm up

M

By Michael Doyle

Well. This is a huge call from ref Ashley Klein.

After running over James Tedesco, Briton Nikora ran the ball at Jack Bostock.

Replays show Nikora raising his arm, and the refs have deemed it hit Bostock in the head.

Penalty NSW.

I am fine if you are going to call that, but I dare say it has happened at least once more in this half, at some point.

Ashley Klein is not a popular man right now.

40' James Tedesco has been flattened

M

By Michael Doyle

With 50 seconds left on the clock, Queensland puts up a midfield bomb.

NSW winger Jack Bostock drops the ball, and Queensland has a full set.

Briton Nikora runs the ball and James Tedesco has been flattened.

Play stopped.

35' TRY: Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow scores for Queensland

M

By Michael Doyle

Left centre Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has scored for Queensland.

With a full set at the NSW goal-line, the Maroons threw everything at the Blues, and the Blues defended terrifically well.

Nathan Cleary (what a first half he is having) made a brilliant tackle to stop Kurt Capewell from scoring.

But on the final play the Maroons shifted left, kept the ball in their hands, and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow crossed in the corner.

From the left touchline, Sam Walker missed the conversion attempt.

30' TRY: Cam Murray scores for NSW after strip

M

By Michael Doyle

Selwyn Cobbo returns a kick, gets hits, falls to the ground, but breaks out of the tackle.

Nathan Cleary goes up to Cobbo and rips the ball from his arms in a one-on-one strip.

Cobbo's knee was on the ground when Cleary first touched him for the strip. Is that legal? Doesn't matter now.

A couple of plays later, Cam Murray takes a charge at the Maroons' line, stretches out, and scores.

Cleary converts the try.

27' TRY: Nathan Cleary scores a double for NSW

M

By Michael Doyle

It is a try from nothing for NSW.

Right centre Stephen Crichton makes a line break, and it is brought down by Queensland fullback Kalyn Ponga, but Crichton is not held.

He passes off the ground to winger Mark Nawaqanitawase, who draws in his opposite, Selwyn Cobbo, and passes inside to Nathan Cleary in support.

Poor defence from the Maroons. Heads-up play from the Blues.

Nathan Cleary, from 19 metres back and 15 metres in off the right touchline, converts the try.

21' Hudson Young at the centre of more drama

M

By Michael Doyle

A high bomb from NSW is caught by Queensland fullback Kalyn Ponga.

As Ponga falls to the ground, he is hit high by Hudson Young.

It's a penalty, and the Maroons players rush in to let Young know their displeasure.

Tough on Young, Ponga was almost lying on his back when he took that catch.

19' NSW threaten again

M

By Michael Doyle

A terrific run by Payne Haas, and an offload, has set up NSW for another attack.

The Blues shift to the left and centre Bradman Best beats two Queensland tacklers.

Best throws a pass inside to Hudson Young, but it is a little high, and Young knocks on.

Young stays on the ground. He was whacked in the back by a monster shot from Harry Grant.

15' TRY: Nathan Cleary scores for NSW

M

By Michael Doyle

Another attacking kick from NSW to the wing. This time, Queensland's Selwyn Cobbo drops the ball, and the Blues have a full set at the Maroons' line.

Nathan Cleary steps off his right foot, gets between a pair of Maroons defenders, and scores for NSW.

The Blues have done a magnificent job of withstanding the early Maroons' pressure, and then turning the momentum of the match.

Cleary converts his own try.

12' Queensland survive another Blues raid

M

By Michael Doyle

Trying to get out of his own end, Queensland lock Reuben Cotter drops the ball.

It gives the Blues another chance at the Maroons' goal-line.

NSW puts up an attacking kick to the right wing, but winger Mark Nawaqanitawase cannot catch the ball in the air.

Queensland off the hook.

10' Bostock drops a golden chance for NSW

M

By Michael Doyle

NSW had the first try of the match in the grasp of Jack Bostock's hands.

The Blues shifted to the left, and Queensland winger Jojo Fifita came off his wing.

A wonderful pass to NSW debutant Jack Bostock, with the goal-line in his sights, is dropped.

Queensland off the hook.

8' NSW get their first play inside Queensland's half

M

By Michael Doyle

NSW have finally wrestled some territory.

Helped by a six-again restart for the Maroons holding down a tackled player, the Blues cross the halfway line.

NSW put up an attacking kick to the left wing.

Queensland's Jojo Fifita drops the ball.

NSW have a scrum, 10 metres from the Queensland line.

6' NSW survive the first Queensland chance

M

By Michael Doyle

After the penalty to Queensland for Hudson Young's lifting tackle, the Maroons are on the attack.

The home side has a few plays at the NSW goal-line, but the Blues hold firm.

Questions ouvertes

  • Will NSW maintain their lead?
  • How will the HIA affect Tedesco's future games?
  • Are the referee's calls consistent?
