Thirty-five medical clinics have been found to have breached privacy protection laws, the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced yesterday.

The clinics were found to have violated Article 8 of the Personal Data Protection Act, which prohibits the collection, use, and processing of personal data without consent, and Article 15 of the same act, which stipulates that personal data shall not be used for purposes other than those for which it was collected.

The ministry said that the clinics had engaged in improper handling of patient data, including unauthorized access and disclosure of sensitive medical information.

Fines ranging from NT$50,000 to NT$200,000 were imposed on the clinics, and they were ordered to rectify their practices within a specified period.

The ministry also stated that it would conduct further investigations into other medical institutions to ensure compliance with privacy regulations.

"We are committed to protecting the privacy of our citizens and will not tolerate any violations of the Personal Data Protection Act," said a ministry spokesperson.

"We urge all medical institutions to review their data handling procedures and ensure they are in full compliance with the law."
