USA Coach Pochettino Downplays Pulisic Injury Concerns After Paraguay Win

Mauricio Pochettino, the coach of the American national team, was quick to allay fears about Christian Pulisic after the star player was substituted during their victory over Paraguay in the World Cup.

The American national team kicked off their Group D campaign at the «Sofie» stadium with a result that dispelled fans' concerns at the start of the tournament.

However, Pulisic's substitution sparked concern, especially given the United States' need for their captain and most reliable forward to be ready for the rest of the group stage.

The coach of the American national team explained in statements reported by the «HITC» website: "Pulisic took a kick to the leg, then started to feel a muscle strain, and we didn't want to take any risks."

Pochettino then added that the problem made it difficult for Pulisic to continue, but the initial assessment was not alarming: "It was difficult to continue playing, but we hope it's not a major problem and that he will be ready for the next match."

Tim Ream, a defender for the American national football team, became the first player to benefit from the new "mistaken identity" rule, which was implemented by the International Football Association Board at the start of this season.

The new rule allows the referee to use VAR (Video Assistant Referee) technology to overturn yellow or red cards mistakenly issued to a player who did not commit the foul. This amendment is expected to be used more frequently in cases of mass altercations when the referee's view is obstructed.

Ream received a yellow card for a foul on Miguel Almirón during the match in which the American national team won 4-1 against Paraguay, which took place early Saturday morning.

However, after reviewing the video, Dutch referee Danny Makkelie changed his decision and cautioned Almirón for simulation.

Ream will be relieved by this decision, as he would otherwise have had to play the remainder of the group stage matches with extreme caution to avoid receiving a second yellow card, which would lead to a one-match suspension.

At 38 years old, Tim Ream became the oldest player in the history of the United States men's national team to participate in a World Cup tournament.

Folarin Balogun, a player for the United States national football team, expressed his happiness at scoring two goals in the match in which his country defeated Paraguay 4-1 in the first round of Group C matches in the World Cup.

Balogun said in statements published on the official website of the International Football Federation (FIFA): "It's a great occasion, an amazing night, and something I've dreamed of for a long time. I chose to represent the United States, and part of that was my desire to play on the biggest stages and give back to the fans."

He added: "It means a lot to me to play in front of our fans... and in a World Cup held on our home soil. I am very happy and proud of everyone. Getting rid of the pressure of the first match in this way is very important, and I am sure it will benefit us greatly."

The match saw a repeat of a familiar scenario for Balogun, who had previously scored the winning goal for the United States in a 2-1 friendly victory over Paraguay last November.

Balogun said: "That's how things went... I know I've scored against them before, and to repeat that on a bigger stage is a dream come true."

It is worth noting that Balogun was awarded the Man of the Match award.

The American national team now enters its second group stage match against Australia in the city of Seattle with great confidence and high morale.
