Coin Center Argues Crypto Code Is Free Speech Protected by First Amendment

Coin Center published a report arguing that writing and publishing crypto software code is protected speech under the First Amendment, comparable to writing a book or publishing a recipe. Executive Director Peter Van Valkenburgh and Director of Research Lizandro Pieper said developers who only publish and maintain software are speakers and inventors, not agents or custodians, and should not face regulatory requirements.
