Academy Updates Oscar Rules to Require Human-Performed Work, Human-Authored Screenplays
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released new Oscar rules requiring that performances be "credited in the film's legal billing and demonstrably performed by humans with their consent" and screenplays be "human-authored" to be eligible. The Academy retains the right to request more information about AI usage. The rules come amid rising AI use in filmmaking, including an upcoming film with an AI-generated Val Kilmer and AI actress Tilly Norwood.
