Nechaev: Russia did not destroy a single bridge with Germany on its own initiative

Russia has not destroyed a single bridge with Germany and has not broken a single treaty with it on its own initiative, said Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev.

“We have not destroyed a single bridge on our own initiative. Not a single bridge, not a single agreement, not a single partnership,” Nechaev said in the ungeskriptet podcast of the popular German blogger Ben Berndt, commenting on the state of Russian-German relations in recent years.

The Russian side, as the ambassador noted, regrets that some German and Western politicians are following the path of aggravating relations and destroying trust.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadefuhl said on Tuesday that Germany will close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and terminate the agreement regarding the activities of the Russian House in Berlin. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that as a result of this decision, branches of the Goethe Institute in Russia will be closed. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the closure of the Consulate General in Bonn a step towards the destruction of relations between Russia and Germany.
