CanTEST detects 'powerful' veterinary sedative in drugs for the first time

Canberra's public drug-checking service CanTEST identified medetomidine, a powerful veterinary sedative, in a green rectangular pill resembling a Xanax tablet that a member of the public expected to be a benzodiazepine or MDMA. Directions Health Services acting chief executive Stephanie Stephens warned that counterfeit benzodiazepines are increasingly unreliable and that drug checking is the only way to know what is circulating in unregulated illicit markets.
