Amazon cargo plane overran runway and crashed into fire at Miami International Airport, all runways temporarily closed

(Central News Agency, Miami, June 6, Comprehensive Foreign News Report) A cargo plane of the American e-commerce giant Amazon overran the runway at Miami International Airport today, hit multiple vehicles and caught fire, sending thick black smoke straight into the sky. The incident resulted in the temporary closure of all runways at one of the busiest airports in the United States.

The Associated Press reported that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that the plane flying from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Florida overran the runway at about 2 p.m.

Photos posted on social media showed the Prime Air plane ending up on the side of the road with two semi-trucks parked nearby. The footage showed that the aircraft, which had already caught fire, had landed on its belly, with its body roughly intact.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it was "gathering information about this accident."

Amazon did not immediately respond to an email request for comment. It was not immediately known whether anyone was injured.

A spokesman for Miami International Airport said all runways and taxiways were closed and flights were suspended.

During the suspension of departures, all flights will be delayed and the airport is effectively closed. The FAA has said it expects there will be fewer takeoffs and landings and flight delays after the Miami airport reopens.
