Takaichi says peace learning certification for Henoko accident is not an excessive intervention

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said on the 23rd that the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology determined that part of the peace study program at Doshisha Kokusai High School (Kyoto) violated the Fundamental Law of Education, which stipulates political neutrality, in connection with the capsizing accident of a ship off the coast of Henoko in Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture. "The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology shared the understanding with Kyoto Prefecture, confirmed whether it was a violation of the Fundamental Law of Education, and provided guidance for corrective action. I do not think it is excessive intervention." He also pointed out that there were "extremely serious problems with the governance of educational corporations and schools." This is the first time the prime minister has visited Okinawa since taking office. Regarding strengthening the defense capabilities of the Nansei Islands, he said, ``As the front line of our country's defense, strengthening the system is an urgent issue.We will move forward with efforts to deploy troops, firmly strengthen deterrence and response capabilities, and take every possible measure for defense.''
