The won/dollar exchange rate re-enters the 1,520 won range due to the Federal Reserve's interest rate hike signal.

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Do-heun = The won/dollar exchange rate rose again to the 1,520 won range on the 18th when the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) signaled an increase in the base interest rate.

As of 9:20 a.m., the Korean won to U.S. dollar exchange rate in the Seoul foreign exchange market on this day was 1,524.2 won, up 10.8 won from the previous day's weekly trading closing price (as of 3:30 p.m.).

The exchange rate started at 1,525.0 won, up 11.6 won, and is fluctuating in the 1,520 won range.

Last night, the Federal Reserve froze its benchmark interest rate at the first Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting held under the new Chairman Kevin Warsh.

The Federal Reserve set the base interest rate at 3.50-3.75% per year, but indicated through dot plots and other methods that the future path of monetary policy has changed from an interest rate cut to an interest rate increase.

As a result, the dollar strengthened.

The dollar index, which represents the value of the dollar against the currencies of six major countries, was 100.268 as of 9:08, down 0.121 from the previous day, but exceeding 100.

The won/yen arbitrage exchange rate was 948.59 won per 100 yen as of 9:08 a.m., up 5.33 won from the standard price at 3:30 p.m. on the previous trading day. The yen/dollar exchange rate fell 0.02% to 160.599 yen.
