Russia denies involvement in the migration crisis in Ceuta

The Russian Embassy in Spain stated that allegations of Russian involvement in the migration crisis in Ceuta are untrue.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian authorities have nothing to do with the massive influx of migrants to Ceuta.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Spain did not contact Russia through existing official channels in connection with Moscow’s alleged involvement in the crisis in Ceuta.

MADRID, September 1 - RIA Novosti. The Russian Embassy in Spain stated that allegations of Russian involvement in the migration crisis in Ceuta are untrue.

“Statements about Russia’s involvement in the migration crisis in the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta do not correspond to reality,” says a message published on the diplomatic mission’s Telegram channel.

The embassy also cited the words of the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov that the Russian authorities have nothing to do with the massive influx of migrants to Ceuta.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Spain did not contact Russia through existing official channels in connection with Moscow’s alleged involvement in the crisis in Ceuta, but instead immediately made public statements.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez earlier said that misinformation around the migration crisis was spreading on social networks, which he linked including Russia and Israel. At the same time, the head of the Spanish government noted that this does not necessarily mean the involvement of a state entity, and the investigation into the circumstances of the incident continues.
