As of June 14, a total of 452,000 fires had been reported across the country, with 886 deaths. Compared with the same period last year, the number of fires and deaths dropped by 17.8% and 14.8% respectively. There were 20 major fire accidents, a year-on-year decrease of 41.2%, and no major or particularly major accidents occurred. Fire rescue teams across the country dispatched a total of 11.996 million personnel and 2.193 million firefighting vehicles to rescue 88,000 trapped people.

Wang Tianrui, spokesperson of the National Fire and Rescue Administration and deputy director of the Fire Supervision Department, said that for larger fire accidents, the National Fire and Rescue Administration immediately dispatches experts to provide on-site guidance to find out the cause of the fire, the cause of the spread and the cause of casualties, and organizes experts to review the investigation report to ensure accurate investigation and handling.
Wang Tianrui introduced that by sorting out and analyzing the investigation and handling of major accidents this year, there are several aspects that deserve great attention.
Residential buildings are prone to fires. Of the 20 major fire accidents that have occurred this year, residential buildings accounted for 14, accounting for 70%. On January 15 this year, a fire broke out in a community in Beilin District, Suihua City, Heilongjiang, killing three people. Although the direct cause of the fire was a malfunction of the LED light on the ceiling of the resident's bedroom. However, inadequate daily fire management in residential properties is an important factor leading to the spread of fires. There was no one on duty in the fire control room of the community, the smoke prevention and exhaust equipment could not be activated, and the fire door was damaged. The stairwell, which was supposed to be a safe stairwell, turned out to be a passage for smoke to spread upwards, eventually causing the tragic death of the escaping residents on the 5th and 14th floors.
Electrical fires account for a high proportion. There were 13 major fire accidents caused by electrical reasons, accounting for 65% of the total. The National Fire and Rescue Bureau calls on manufacturers of electrical products to improve product safety and quality; relevant power supply and distribution companies should take a step forward and proactively carry out safety inspections and reminders for users in accordance with the principle of "who pays, who is responsible"; communities should be equipped with professional electricians, and professionals should do professional things; users should consciously purchase and use 3C certified electrical products. Although the product is expensive, safety is important. Fire is ruthless, and if you take advantage of small things, you will suffer big losses.
Illegal modification and parking problems of electric bicycles have rebounded. In the past two years, the State Council Safety Committee has made great efforts to carry out rectification of the entire chain of electric bicycles, but there are still problems with lax and soft supervision in some places. On April 25, five people died in a fire in a community in Chengdu, Sichuan Province due to illegal modifications and illegal parking of electric bicycles. A short circuit in the vehicle's electrical circuit caused a fire. After traceability investigation, it was found that the brand of the electric bicycle that caught fire was "Anda", the manufacturer was Sichuan Tianying Anda Bicycle Industry Co., Ltd., and the sales store was Shuangku Bicycle Dealer in Shuangliu District. Because the factory vehicle was not equipped with a battery pack, Shuanku Auto Dealer illegally lifted the speed limit for it and illegally installed six 72V lead-acid batteries in total, which seriously exceeded the 48V standard requirements and posed a hidden danger for fires.
Flammable decorative materials contribute to the spread of fire. On May 2, a fire broke out in a pedicure shop in Lingbao City, Henan Province due to burning wax and incense, killing six customers. Because the walls and ceilings of the pedicure shop were heavily decorated with flammable polyurethane materials, the spread of the fire was exacerbated. In addition, all 6 deceased persons drank alcohol that night, and 3 of them were in a state of drunkenness. Therefore, they were unable to escape in time when the fire broke out, and eventually died due to inhalation of toxic smoke.
