Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on the verge of creating history. If India hand him a debut in the first T20I against Ireland in Belfast on Friday, the 15-year-old will become the youngest player to represent India in international cricket, going past Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record. Sooryavanshi will be 15 years and 91 days old if he takes the field. Tendulkar was 16 years and 205 days old when he made his international debut against Pakistan in 1989. The teenager has earned his opportunity after a strong run in last few months. He was the highest run-scorer in IPL 2026, making 776 runs in 16 innings for Rajasthan Royals at a strike rate of 237.30. Just days ago, while playing for India A against Sri Lanka A, he broke the record for the fastest half-century in List A cricket, reaching the landmark in only 11 balls. As anticipation builds around his likely debut, Sooryavanshi continues to draw attention from across the cricket world. His rise has already sparked comparisons with some of India's biggest talents, and his selection could mark another milestone in Indian cricket. His debut would also end a long wait for a teenage cricketer in the Indian team. The last teenager to make an international debut for India was Prithvi Shaw in 2018. Shaw made his debut against the West Indies on October 4, 2018, in the first Test of the series and scored a century in that match. He became the youngest Indian batter to score a hundred on Test debut. Since then, no teenager has represented India in international cricket. Shaw went on to play five Test matches for India before losing his place in the side. If selected against Ireland, Sooryavanshi will not only break Tendulkar's record but also become the first teenager to play for India in this decade.
