RAS Academician: Vaping can lead to incurable "vaper's disease"

Smoking vapes and electronic cigarettes can lead to the so-called "vaper's disease" (EVALI), which is practically impossible to cure, said Gennady Onishchenko, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education.

"Vaper's disease" causes the rapid development of a lung disease that can lead to disability due to the blockage of the respiratory system, and also contributes to the development of type 2 diabetes.

Smoking vapes and electronic cigarettes can lead to the so-called "vaper's disease" (EVALI), which is practically impossible to cure, Gennady Onishchenko, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education, told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the press service of the Perm Krai Legislative Assembly reported that a complete ban on the storage and distribution of vapes had been introduced in the region.

"Vaper's pneumonia" (a lung disease associated with smoking electronic cigarettes and vapes - ed.) is a severe disease; it develops rapidly and it is practically impossible to treat it," Onishchenko said.

He noted that as a result, a person becomes disabled not from the effect of nicotine on the body. The reason is that the heated oily substance enters the lung alveoli and blocks the human respiratory system.
