Hansi Flick announces Barcelona's five captains for the 2026/2027 season

Hansi Flick, Barcelona's coach, announced the 5 leaders of the "Catalan team" for this season 2026/2027.

In a press conference held on Saturday, Flick was asked about the ranking of Barcelona’s leaders following the team’s recent vote.

The German coach responded, saying: “We have been here for two years, and now I know the team better. I chose two leaders, while the other three were voted on by the team.”

The 61-year-old continued: “The leaders are: Rafinha, Pedri (then) Eric Garcia, Frenkie de Jong and Lamin Yamal,” making the latter the youngest captain in the team in recent years.

Hansi Flick added: “In every training session I can see the quality in this team, how we press, pass and compete.”

In a related context, Flick said about the health condition of Yamal (19 years old): “He suffered a blow and was feeling pain. It would have been better for him to train separately. After training, he said that everything is fine. He will travel with us and we will see tomorrow (about the possibility of his participation against Valencia).”

Regarding the newly joined Catalan team, Gabriel Jesus, Hansi Flick said: “I like what I see from him. He has not yet reached 100%, but he may get some minutes tomorrow.”

Barcelona is scheduled to meet Valencia at the Mestalla stadium on Sunday, in the fourth round of the Spanish League (LaLiga).
