“2026 marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan and the first full year after the closure and operation of the Hainan Free Trade Port. Standing at this new historical starting point, the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port is showing a steady and thriving momentum,” said Su Yan, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Hainan Provincial Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, at the launch ceremony of the “Chasing Dreams in China · Overseas Chinese Encounter the Free Trade Port” 2026 Overseas Chinese-Language Media Hainan Interview Tour held in Haikou on the 7th. She expressed hope that through the lenses and pens of media at home and abroad, the world would see a more three-dimensional, vibrant, and open free trade port.

The six-day “Chasing Dreams in China · Overseas Chinese Encounter the Free Trade Port” 2026 Overseas Chinese-Language Media Hainan Interview Tour was launched on the same day. Representatives from overseas Chinese-language media and central media covering overseas Chinese affairs from countries and regions including the United States, New Zealand, Germany, and Russia will depart from Haikou to visit Ding’an, Chengmai, Danzhou, Dongfang, Sanya, and other areas. They will explore industrial parks, overseas Chinese-funded enterprises, rural revitalization demonstration sites, and intangible cultural heritage inheritance projects, experiencing up close the construction boom following the closure and operation of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

Su Yan noted that in the nearly nine months since the closure and operation of the Hainan Free Trade Port, core policies such as “zero tariffs” on imported goods and exemption from tariffs on processed value-added products have been fully implemented. The island’s eight open ports for foreign trade are operating efficiently, and ten “second-line” ports are functioning well. There has been a significant increase in inbound and outbound travelers, as Hainan is transforming from a popular tourist destination into an important gateway for international personnel exchanges and cross-border trade.

“The overseas Chinese community has become an indispensable force in the construction of the free trade port,” said Su Yan. Hainan is a traditional major hometown of overseas Chinese in China, and its overseas Chinese resources are among its most precious assets. In recent years, the Hainan Provincial Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese has consistently adhered to the principle of “uniting overseas Chinese hearts, gathering overseas Chinese wisdom, and leveraging overseas Chinese strength,” continuously enhancing the brand influence of initiatives such as the “World Overseas Chinese Businessmen Tour of Hainan” and the “Roots-Seeking Journey in China” summer camp. Last year, the China Overseas Chinese Investment (Hainan) Conference, co-hosted by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and the Hainan Provincial Government, attracted more than 800 overseas Chinese businessmen from 104 countries and regions to gather in Hainan. A total of 107 investment projects were successfully signed, with a total value of 115.3 billion yuan, covering fields such as modern industry, headquarters bases, and industrial parks.

Su Yan expressed her expectation that media friends would serve as “interpreters of policy dividends” for the Hainan Free Trade Port, thoroughly explaining the institutional advantages after the closure and operation, helping overseas Chinese businessmen identify the right path, calculate costs clearly, and invest with confidence; as “writers of Hainan’s stories,” recording the struggle and achievements of overseas Chinese enterprises taking root in the province and depicting the revitalization of Li and Miao ethnic minority villages; and as “bridge-builders connecting hearts across the seas,” arousing greater attention from overseas Chinese and new-generation ethnic Chinese toward Hainan, and promoting the convergence of capital, technology, and talent in the province.
