Jordan and Syria intercept Iranian missiles, and the Revolutionary Guard claims to target American bases in Jordan

On Wednesday, Jordan and Syria announced the interception of “Iranian missiles,” while the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed to have targeted “American military facilities in Jordan.”

The Jordanian army spokesman said in a statement, “The air defense systems dealt with 20 ballistic missiles launched towards Jordanian territory, and 18 of them were successfully intercepted and destroyed, while two missiles fell in areas devoid of population centers, while no loss of life was recorded.”

In Syria, state television reported that “Iranian missiles were detected heading towards Jordan,” indicating that they were “intercepted.”

On the other hand, the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation published footage showing what it said was “the launch of several cruise missiles from Iran,” and it was not clear where the missiles were launched or their specific targets.

The publication of this footage came shortly after the Revolutionary Guards issued a statement claiming to have targeted “American military facilities at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.” The missile shown at the top of the video clip bears the phrase: “Iran will not back down one iota regarding the Strait of Hormuz.”

This came after the US Central Command (Centcom) announced on Tuesday the destruction of five Iranian tankers in response to "attempts to launch ballistic missile attacks targeting a US Navy warship."

These attacks provoked Iran, which threatened to target oil tankers near Bahraini and Kuwaiti ports and announced the launch of missiles at Jordan.
