Tsinghua University School of Semiconductor Funding Controversy: Lin Benjian’s Complaints and the School’s Response

Lin Benjian, dean of the School of Semiconductor at Tsinghua University, mentioned at President Gao Weiyuan’s briefing yesterday that the development of Tsinghua Science and Technology Park listed a funding requirement of 60 million, but Tsinghua University only provided 20 million.

Lin Benjian, dean of the School of Semiconductor at Tsinghua University, complained at a public briefing by President Gao Weiyuan yesterday that the Tsinghua Science and Technology Park, where the School of Semiconductor merged with Chung Hua University, listed a funding of 60 million yuan to renovate the old school building, but the school only provided 20 million yuan, causing the project to fail many times, and many funds were stuck in the administrative procedures of the president and the school. In this regard, a press release issued by Tsinghua University in the evening mentioned that the Tsinghua Science and Technology Park was inaugurated on August 10, and that the school fully supports the establishment of the School of Semiconductor Research on the Chung Hwa Campus. On September 3, the School Fund Management Committee approved the investment of more than NT$140 million for construction projects such as space renovation, relocation, and power system upgrades on the Chung Hwa Campus. The relevant funding plans have been explained to Lin Benjian as soon as possible.

Tsinghua University pointed out that Tsinghua University has entered a new stage of development after the merger with Chung Hua University. As the integration work continues to advance, the School of Semiconductor Research has taken the lead in deciding to move to the China Campus of Tsinghua Science and Technology Park, opening a new development base for semiconductor talent cultivation, forward-looking research and industrial links. Semiconductor talent cultivation and technology research and development are closely related to Taiwan's industrial competitiveness and global technology development. Tsinghua University emphasized that the establishment of Tsinghua Science and Technology Park is not only the opening of a new campus space, but also an important milestone for Tsinghua University to deepen industry-university cooperation, foster technological innovation, and promote the development of semiconductors and forward-looking technologies.
