Diesel prices in Germany have risen due to the actions of the Houthis in Yemen

Prices at German gas stations have jumped amid the Houthi offensive in Yemen.

The average price per liter of diesel in Germany reached 2.56 euros, and at one gas station in Berlin a liter of diesel cost about 2.8 euros.

In mid-August, the average price per liter of diesel was approximately 2.25 euros.

BERLIN, September 12 - RIA Novosti. Prices at German gas stations have jumped amid the offensive of the Shiite Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) in Yemen, the Bild newspaper reports.

“In an instant, a liter of diesel and Super gasoline becomes about 20 euro cents more expensive. The reason is ... the Houthis, who hold the Bab el-Mandeb Strait,” the publication says.

The newspaper notes that similar jumps have been observed in the past, but prices usually drop quickly. On Saturday they remained high much longer.

As Bild reported, at 12.00 (13.00 Moscow time) the average price per liter of diesel in Germany reached 2.56 euros. The publication, citing a portal for comparing fuel prices, clever-tanken.de, clarified that on Saturday at one of the gas stations in Berlin, a liter of diesel cost about 2.8 euros. At the same time, according to the DPA agency, in mid-August the average price per liter of diesel was approximately 2.25 euros.

Bild also noted, citing UN data, that in 2023, almost 9% of the total volume of global maritime trade passed through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
