Justice Party criticizes Hanwha Aerospace's 'Safety Culture Innovation Committee'

Daejeon = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jae-rim = The Justice Party Daejeon City Party criticized on the 15th the 'Safety Culture Innovation Committee' introduced by Hanwha Aerospace as a solution to the explosion accident at the Daejeon business site, calling it "an excuse to avoid responsibility for the accident and avoid punishment."

The Justice Party Daejeon City Party said in a commentary titled 'Only pattern innovation, concerns about Hanwha's Safety Culture Innovation Committee', "Planning to innovate the workplace with a private advisory body is deceiving the public and workers," and added, "It is a clearly regressive structure compared to the social consultative body in which Hanwha's labor, management, and state agencies participated immediately after the explosion in 2019."

The Justice Party's Daejeon City Party also said that an outside director of Hanwha Insurance and a former ESG chairman of Hanwha Non-life Insurance was named as the chairman of the Safety Culture Innovation Committee, in fact an 'internal Hanwha figure', and claimed that the committee was "suspicious of it being a declaration of intent to avoid responsibility for the accident and investigation of the truth, as well as a legal shield to protect top management."

Previously, Hanwha Aerospace announced that it would begin activities to prevent recurrence of accidents in earnest, starting with the launch of the 'Safety Culture Innovation Committee', an independent organization centered on external experts, the day before.

On the 1st, an explosion occurred at Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon plant in Building 56 (washing room) while washing propellant from molds and manufacturing tools, killing five people and injuring two others.
