South Korea and the US held the first round of security talks in Seoul

South Korea and the United States held the first round of negotiations in Seoul regarding the implementation of security agreements previously reached by the leaders of the two countries during the summit, the Yonhap agency reports, citing the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, the South Korean Foreign Ministry announced the visit of the American delegation to Seoul on June 2-3 to conduct relevant negotiations.

“According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dated June 2, negotiations between the government delegations of South Korea and the United States were held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building,” the agency said in a statement.

As noted, representatives of the delegations were First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Park Yun-ju and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker.

According to Yonhap, on Tuesday the parties mainly discussed the main points of Seoul's plan to build a nuclear submarine. In addition, a second round of talks is planned for Wednesday, during which delegations are expected to discuss in more detail the issues of uranium enrichment and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel needed for submarines.
